Message from the Chairman of the Board

As we wrap up another Mardi Gras season and begin moving closer to spring, we start to see new growth emerge from established plants and trees. This same type of activity of new life and growth is happening here at the Santa Rosa County Chamber of Commerce. For example, the 31 year old Leadership Santa Rosa program has gotten off to another fresh start this year with SimSoc last month and continues to grow as Class 31 has completed Ropes; the first class for the 2017 program year. Class 31 is already setting their sights on earning the highly regarded title of "Best Class Ever".

Another area of fresh growth we have recently experienced here at your Chamber is the 1st Annual "Keep it Local" Business Expo. This event was a great success with 43 vendors participating and 160 visitors. Thank you to Terry Miller, Anna Weaver, Trey Tinney, Derek Neely and all others that worked so hard to make this a success! We especially appreciate the great hospitality of the management and staff of The Venue at Moors Lakes.

Of course, we can't forget about Project Welcome, your Chamber's project focused on completing our new home to be constructed on Avalon Boulevard. We are already well past the 50% mark with our fundraising! The monetary and in-kind donations continue to flow in at a steady pace, and we plan to have this beautiful new Chamber building complete by the end of this year.

Finally, I want to share with you the great work your Santa Rosa County Legislative Coalition performed in Tallahassee last month. Eight members of the Legislative Coalition, which is comprised of representation from the six chambers operating in Santa Rosa County, met with five of our state legislators to discuss several issues impacting the business environment in Santa Rosa County. This was a very productive trip and we have high hopes that the Coalition's advocacy will prove to be beneficial to Santa Rosa County businesses. If you are interested in the details of the issues discussed, feel free to contact your Chamber.

Let's continue this growth as we press into March!

Steve Rhodes
2017 Chairman of the Board
